Description: I had to stay here for one night and booked via my Marriott account online. I had originally booked the nearby Marriott Hotel, but they did not have any non-smoking rooms available so I booked here instead.
Upon arriving at the airport I used the phones located there to contact the hotel and find out where to pick up the shuttle bus. I ended up speaking to several different people on the phone and being kept on hold for a number of minutes – not a good start.
I eventually found the shuttle bus and along with a few other people were dropped off outside the hotel entrance.
When I booked-in I was told I had a king suite, non-smoking, and was given my room key. I went up to the room and when I entered I could smell stale smoke, but as I has to leave the hotel almost straight away I quickly showered and changed and left.
When I got back to the room later that night, I could definitely smell stale cigarette smoke. By this time however, I was very tired and had unpacked most of my toiletries etc., so couldn’t really be bothered to move, but the smell really bothered me every time I woke up in the night.
In the morning when I checked out I mentioned that the room smelt badly of cigarette smoke and was told that it was a smoking room, and not just that someone had had a crafty fag! After complaining about this the woman went silent and started typing furiously. I was just left to stand and wait. After a minute or so she said she had reduced my room cost by $50. Although this was a good gesture, it did me no good as now I lost out on a lot of reward points, and also my employer was paying, so no compensation to me at all. Above all, she never once apologised.
I felt this was all handled rather badly, and I cannot forgive them for putting me in a smoking room when my booking was clearly for non-smoking–very poor service.
With regard to the suite itself, it was quite large with separate living area with sofa, TV, desk, fridge, and microwave. In the bedroom was a king bed, cabinet, wardrobe, TV, coffee maker, basin and a separate bathroom with bath, shower, and toilet. Other than the smell of smoke, it was clean and tidy.
The hotel has a free shuttle bus to and from the airport and the Mall of America. The mall bus going from the hotel every hour on the hour, and back again at 10 minutes past the hour.
