A Unique Property and Great for Chinatown

A Unique Property and Great for Chinatown

We've visited the Hilton San Francisco Financial District several times, beginning when it was a Holiday Inn property. Since then, the modern tower that stands off the corner of Chinatown near the Transamerica Pyramid has had a complete facelift. Despite its 25-story size and concrete construction, this hotel is surprisingly intimate in comparison to some of the larger Hiltons in San Francisco.

The very best rooms are on the top floor and feature balconies, but many lower floor rooms also offer nice cityscape views and we appreciate the ability to open the windows for a little fresh air. The decor is modern and the while the level of finish is good, this hotel does not pretend to imitate a more elegant, traditional property. Instead, it is a more trendy feel. Housekeeping is excellent and the recent restoration is evident throughout, so it is much like staying in a "new" hotel. Extra credit: we noted that high speed internet was complimentary, which is not typical with Hilton properties.

From this location, it is an easy walk into Chinatown and North Beach, which makes it an excellent choice. We also like the restaurant scene. Be aware that Sundays and holidays in the Financial District tend to leave many coffee shops, restaurants and stores closed so head through Chinatown and on toward the Wharf to find places that are open if that is your situation. Unique to this hotel is that it houses the Chinese Cultural Center and also features a skybridge to the plaza, where you will find spirited games of Chinese checkers being played on the weekends by the men, while women enjoy card games.

I have stayed at this hotel 3 previous times (When it was a Holiday Inn-It was great), My stay this time as a Hilton was hurtful. $54.00 a day for parking plus tip (Across the street at Portsmouth Parking it was $26.00 a day.) $20 for a cheap breakfast and $6 for a cappachino. If you are on business let your company pay these outrageous rates okay. Otherwise, go somewhere else

The hotel has a nice ambience, the rooms are comfortable, and it has a great location just off of Chinatown. However, the room I got was located right next to the elevators and I could hear them go up and down all day (and night long). Not what I expected from a Hilton. The hotel clerk gave me a tip that all the double bed rooms are like this so perhaps it would be better if one just avoided them. I don't think I'll be back.

Less Than Average Big City Hotel

If you like noisy rooms with street noise from 20 floors below coming into your room like you were at street level because the hotel lacks proper sound insulation, or you welcome hearing the TV in the room next to you while you try to sleep then this is the place for you. If you like a $20 breakfast of just plain oatmeal, ordinary toast and average coffee then you will love the price you pay at this Hilton. For * bucks we got a room with a view, more street noise than I could believe, a TV next door that when turned to a reasonable volume sounded like it was in our room, casual chatting in the room above us sounding like a war zone, and comfortable beds. Oh, and one more thing, the wonderful* dollar Hilton overnight parking charge was so nice of them considering the cost of overnight parking right across the street is half of that. Its not that we are not well traveled, we are particularly well traveled on the world stage, its just that for $*dollars for a night at a hotel you should get so much more satisfaction than this Hilton provides.

Awesome comfort and location

Easy check-in and -out. Nice view. Clean and super comfortable. The location was great for our total tourist vacation. Staff was helpful and cheerful. Our two shuttlebus drivers from/to SFO were crazy (fast) drivers using ill-maintained vehicles (seatbelt didn't work, shocks totally shot). I'd take the taxi or, if at all possible, Bart.
