This being my second trip, I knew I wanted to be very close to Piazza San Marco. We read a lot of reviews and found this place just couple of minutes from St. Mark's Square. Venice was the first stop in our 2-week trip in Italy, which meant we had luggage to lug around. Hence, in addition to being a central location, we did not want it to be too far from the boat stops (Vaporetto). The boat stop for this hotel was San Marco.
Casa Cavanella is a house with five to six rooms in a quiet street. Keys are held in an adjoining hotel and the friendly attendant handed us two keys, one for the entrance to the house (Casa) and the other to our room. The house was in a newly renovated building and had very bright and clean interiors. Our room was on the second floor and had a simple decor with clean beds and bathroom. Attendants are available 24 hours and are useful for late arrivals.
Rooms come at various prices in this pricey city. We ended up paying 400 Euros for 3 nights for a four-person room, and this included a stay on Christmas Eve, which is usually pricier. Also included in the price was breakfast, which was simple but sufficient.
The location means you can not only get to St. Mark's Square for early morning coffee, but also for late-night drinks! Also, in a city with confusing lanes, you can always find this hotel, which means less walking around!!
