La Posada del Arte

A unique hostel experience. Bright, art-filled rooms- most with lovely views of a waterfall and in-room fireplaces. Great breakfast included! A little pricier than other Baños options, but worth the splurge if you have the cash.

Hostal Colibrí was a very warm, cozy and elegant place to stay the first time. Currently called Hostal Posada del Arte (before that, it was called Hostal Cultural), it has changed owners 3 times since I was there in 2002, and the quality of the rooms has dropped significantly, with the price increasing to more than double. $17/night is significant for Ecuador, considering it used to be $7/night with a better atmosphere, more privacy, and well-maintenanced rooms.

I wasn't too fond of the windows on the interior of the hostal, providing little privacy. Sleep came slowly from the thin walls and interior windows. The noise from the kitchen could be heard very clearly.

This hostel encourages and promotes art from local Ecuadorian artists.

Especially relaxing is the balcony that wasn't built until this 3rd owner (natives of Chicago).

The breakfast was magnificent, and the waiter was impeccable, catering to our desires and offering suggestions for the best activities.

Check them out directly, with the ease of online payment and a reservation at www.posadadelarte.com.
