Let me start by saying that the Bicycle Hotel's Canal House is fabulous!! We landed in Amsterdam around 7am dutch time and took the 20 minute train into Amsterdam; it was a double decker train! The tram from Central Station took us to our neighborhood, de Pijp. The actual Bicycle Hotel proper is located on Osterdestraat but the Canal House is located a 10 minute walk away. It is incredible: four levels, kitchen below deck, first floor living room, second and third floor bedrooms. The toilet and sink are located on the living room level while the shower is located on the second floor. The service is great. The owner Clemens was very gracious and helpful. We arrived a bit after we said we would and needed to wait at the hotel while Clemens brought his son to school. Breakfast consisting of cereal, bread, spreads, juices, and Internet access was waiting for us. Which also gave us time to mingle with the hotel guests. With his attached wagon bike, Clemens nicely wheeled our baggage to the house while we took our first scenic tour of the city. When we arrived, he introduced the house to us, giving us a full tour and sit-down explanation of the surrounding neighborhood and key places like supermarkets and bike rentals.
As soon as I saw the name of the hotel, I knew it was for me. The number of bikes and the number of people are pretty much equal, and that is heaven for me. We had the option to rent straight from the hotel or from a place around the corner from the house—thumbs up all around. We are free to enjoy the free breakfast at the hotel if we let them know in advance, just so they prepare enough food. The house is fully equipped with a kitchen, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher so we could prepare our own meals. Internet access as well is free to guests at the Canal House. The house was €110 a night with a minimum of two people; extra guests are €40 a night.
