Good hotel

We're back after a week at the Opal. The hotel is in a good location. There are homeless people about but in SFO, they are everywhere. The breakfast was decent, lots of carbs. Breakfast staff very help w/ high chair. The hotel occasionally smells and the carpeting had dark stains. Are pets allowed? Parking was annoying as we couldn't reserve advance space. We had a billing problem and they fixed it on the spot. Laundry machines also available. Overall, we would return.

On one of the major conecting roads the bus connection from this hotel are excellent. Don't go for extended walks from here though, since the nearby neighborhood sports your local junkeesl. The hotel is older, well kept. The rooms are sapcious, furniture a little /thrown together. The staff of the hotel is VERY helpful and helped overlook other shortcommings. The continental breakfast was pretty drab. If it didn't come pre packaged you didn't get it. Good food (dinner)in a little place across the street. The diner next door was pretty expensive.

Very pleasant stay

I had a group of high students with me staying at the Opal hotel. The staff was courteous and extremely helpful. Rooms were very clean.Good location for Union Square and cable cars - about a 15 minute walk. Try walking to the north of the hotel and then east.

Good Price if you can put up with the SMELL

Hotel is old & creapy like your in a haunted house. Right when you walk in you are greeted by a urine like smell that goes throughout the hotel and rooms. The clothes in my suitcase all smelled of this. The bed are AWFUL! The mattress was flat and uncomfortable. But for a little more money I would go with a different hotel. The location is nice but lots of bums hanging around. Not a good choice with children.

This was a business trip but turned out to be a real pleasure. The hotel staff were the best. They found a misplaced cel phone and were great about keeping it secure until claimed. The room was excellent, clean, well appointed, well-maintained. The location (Van Ness and Geary) is right on the edge of the Tenderloin so at night not the best place to go wandering. This hotel is on my must do again list.
