Close and Convenient

The hotel was very safe and monitored 24 hours. The only access into the hotel was with your room key. The staff was polite and helpful. Transportation was almost right outside your door. The bus system was great! Whenever we planned a tour, they picked us up at the hotel as a courtesy and took us to the meeting spot. We were near MANY convenient places to eat and had a nice variety of cultural foods throughout the week. I recommend this hotel/area of San Francisco! The price was definitely right for us.

Hole in a not so great wall

I stayed at the Opal according to some decent reviews from other Travelocity members. What were you guys thinking? This place is a dump! The room was SOOOO tiny, my husband and I couldn't get around each other to change our clothes! The bathroom was literally closet sized and the bed was the most uncomfortable thing I had to endure! I agree with other travelers...I asked why this fee wasn't either given to us upon reservation or included in the room bill, my answer was "This is San Francisco. You always pay for parking." Don't walk behind this hotel if you're alone. Sketchy to say the least. Overall, just don't stay here! It was terrible!!!!

We enjoyed our short stay at The Opal!!!!!! The staff were very helpful. Our car was secure. We were close to public transportation. The 24 hours we were in San Fransico were jam packed with tourist things. The staff heped us enjoy as much as we could in those short hours.

The Opal Is Hidden Jewel

Painless check-in. I first thought parking was too expensive at $25/day, but that is comparable to other big cities. I would forego the car on my next visit and just walk except for maybe a day rental to visit wine country. Staff were fabulous. Not only did they let me play their beautiful grand piano, they encouraged me to come back for another session. Complimentary breakfast was light but quite well kept, well serviced. Housekeeper was very accomodating to my schedule and very friendly. This place is a hidden jewel. If you want the fanciest of places go elsewhere, but the value, the staff, and even the other guests made this a great choice for me. --dj ps. Only downside was that at checkout a printer problem delayed my departure minimally, probably not worth mentioning. Overall, it was a great stay!

Felt Unsafe

I was really disappointed by this hotel. The staff was okay. . . not overly friendly. However, the bathrooms left a lot to be desired as there was no room to set down hair brushes, blow dryers, etc. The mattress wasn't very comfortable either. All that asside, the thing that bothered me the most was there seemed to be a lot of partying going on inside the hotel. Also, there were a lot of homeless people hanging around outside begging for money. Really didn't feel all that secure in this hotel.
