Description: This motel {formerly Comfort Inn New River} is smack in the heart of the New River Gorge territory. It is a mile from the Canyon Rim Visitor center. We did not pre-book but we got a very good walk in rate plus senior discount.{$69} I would recommend that you book ahead after Memorial Day because the Motel hosts groups of white water enthusiasts.
We had a no smoking room on the second floor {no elevator} overlooking the pool. This two-story building and its grounds are immaculate. Friendly staff man the office and a myriad of maps and information pamphlets are available there. Staff can arrange white water excursions, horse back riding, hiking and bicycle opportunities.
Our room was the typical motel offering two queen sized beds and a small pull out couch, plus TV, radio alarm, iron / board, hairdryer and coffee maker and Internet hook up. A small fridge and microwave was tucked away in the corner.
Bathroom amenities consisted of tub/ shower, shampoo and soap, and an ample supply of soft white towels. The overall décor was a bit dark and old fashioned but the beds and pillows were very comfortable.
Attached to the motel is Elliott’s Whitewater Grill. They serve salads/ sandwiches steak wings and pizza. Adorning its walls were beautiful photographs of the surrounding area and memorabilia of the gorge.
The gift shop was well stocked with film, sundries and t-shirts. This area also doubled as the breakfast area.
Breakfast included in the rate consisted of eggs waffles toast bagels and cereal. We met a whole group of white water enthusiast having breakfast. They related they had been visiting this motel for five years and expressed their opinion that it was one of the best around. We certainly will return if we get the opportunity, I would like to try a white water excursion.
