Description: We found this B&B before we arrived in Italy. We were travelling with a car and one important thing for us was to find accommodations with free and safe parking (not so common in Italy.)
Il Pianigiano is not so easy to find, especially if you arrive late in the evening. It was dark when we arrived in Certaldo and we had to telephone the B&B for someone to give us more directions. Actually, they came to meet us and we followed them back. When we woke in the morning, from our window it looked like we were in the middle of the countryside, yet we were just 10 minutes walk to Certaldo town.
The B&B is managed by a family. The husband and wife speak only Italian but their speaks English.
We had two lovely rooms. My parents had a room at the ground floor looking to the garden with en suite bathroom. Our room was at the top of the house, looking over the olive and lemon groves. Our room was at the top of the house with the bathroom next door but we were the only ones to use it and we had a bath and also a shower. We also had a sofa and large wardrobes. Each room also had a TV.
In the evening, for breakfast in the morning, you write your name and the time for your breakfast on the chalk board. At breakfast there was fresh bread and rolls, yogurts, meats and cheeses, jams, sweet pastries, orange juice and of course tea and coffee. We found the breakfast very big, and often didn't feel hungry again until the evening.
You can make tea and coffee any time you want in the small kitchen. There is a fridge and cupboards, small cooker so you can cook for yourself here. There are bottles of water left out for guests each morning.
In the B&B they have free Internet, the connection was slow, but fine to send emails.
There is a wonderful garden here with deck chairs to sit in the sun. There are fruit trees and tomatoes growing and you can help yourself. Also bikes that you can rent for free to see the area.
