We booked this hotel in February for September, and I think this is the only reason we got this hotel room at all, considering the reasonable rate they charge. All other suites I saw in the centre of the city were about twice as much (although they may well have been bigger/better?). It is the only suite in the Plaza Mayor, and it is right at the top of the building. The room is a loft conversion that has been done quite well, giving it a rustic feel with the comforts of modern living. The air-conditioning was a Godsend for Madrid in early September, but the thing I loved most was the amount of space in the room, something I really missed at the next hotel we stopped in. The balcony was also a great feature for a city hotel, giving a place of privacy if you wanted to worship the sun or simply a great place to sit at the end of an evening and look over the rooftops. The bathroom was modern and functional, although the tiling looked like it might need re-doing soon. There is a frosted glass wall between the shower and bed, so this may not be the ideal shared room for those not intimate.
Other features included a fridge, TV (with some satellite channels) and video, comfy chairs, and a free room safe. We were more than happy with this hotel, and apart from the 5- to 10-minute walk with a heavy suitcase (my fault, not the hotels), I could find little to fault it. I would definitely stay there again.
