The grounds of the resort were beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms were a different story. The room was very, very musty. The beds had very cheap mattresses that felt like cardboard. The decor was very outdated and did not match the rest of the resort. Also, the hair dryer in the bathroom had electrical tape on the cord. The food in the buffet restaurant was excellent. I also dined at the Italian restaurant twice. I had the pasta with the medallion lobster. The first time I had that dish it was delicious; the second time, the lobster was like paste! It was disgusting. The food at the Japanese restaurant was very good. Let's move on to the drinks: They were so watered down you couldn't get a buzz if you had 50 drinks!!!! You're better off sticking with the beer and the wine. They have a multitude of staff; however, when checking in or checking out they have one or two people at the front desk. It took forever to check in and out...and, if you use the phone make sure you check your bill. One of the guests used the phone for 38 minutes total and the hotel charges one dollar per minute. They charged him over $108.00. Would I go to this resort again? NO!!!!
A great experience

This is the place to be. My friend and I went (both single) and had a great experience. The food was delicious and tasty. There were several special restraunts that you needed to make reservations for. The secret there is if you want to eat at the special themed restraunts go ahead and make your reservations for every night in advance. That will save you from waiting in line each day to make a different reservation. There is no need to leave the resort. Everything that you need can be done at the resort or set up at the resort. Bring nice clothes to wear of you plan on eating in the themed restraunts. Men a shirt with a collar and pants. Ladies a dress is just fine. It is hot in DR so plan on sweating when you go to these restraunts. Also you want be aware of the AC in the rooms here. In our ocean front room we put the AC on 70F it never got cooler than 75 F. However, it was quite pleasant compared to being outside. You will adjust after a day or so. The service is great and gratuity is not necessary. However, I suggest you tip your favorite pool bartender a $10 or $20 tip your first day or night. You will get super fast service during your entire stay. This is not necessary but the lobby bar can get really busy. You will never want to leave barcelo punta cana ....ever...Oh by the way...take a taxi to the resort $40 and make sure you have the price negotiated before you leave. The bus trip will stop at every resort before yours. You will love the people and don't forget to get the dominican flag drink at the resort. Enjoy!!!

We had a blast at Barcelo, it was clean, safe and the food was awesome. Staff were friendly and fun, the beach was AWESOME !!!!!! The only thing I would improve on is the shows at night were somewhat amateurish....but ok. the a la carte restaurants were really good especially japanese, the buffet dinners had really good selection as well. I would recommend this resort and visit again. it was under renovation but well managed, this use to be a breezes now a barcelo. Four star hotel, great value for the money and overall a 5 star experience.
