A wonderful stay

My stay at the Outrigger was near perfect. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had stayed longer. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We had an ocean view room. Having coffee in the morning on the lanai, watching the birds and the ocean was the perfect start to each day. The breakfast was good, a lot of variety. Can't say enough about the staff, they were so hospitable. Looking forward to staying there again.

Found this place by accident- had booked another hotel that was unacceptable. This hotel was very clean- both the grounds, and rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful-went out of their way to help us find a particular dining option. The breakfast had lots of fresh fruit options, as well as a buffet with hot foods. We were there on a holiday weekend and the dining room staff kept the tables clean and were friendly and courteous. The grounds were fantastic-lots of things to do right at the hotel. Big bonus- the sea turtles swimming in the lagoon in front of the hotel. May not be the newest hotel on the block- but the beds were comfortable-( which is usually a problem for me )good quality linens used, exceptionally clean and fresh, the location was quiet and just outside of downtown Kona (within 5 miles). Would stay here every time we return to the Big Island.

The Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort was a lovely hotel. It was a great base for our ten day stay on the Big Island. The rooms are comfy and the refrigerator came in handy. I bought different kona and Ka 'u coffees and tried them all in the privacy of my hotel. Walking the tide pools. Watching the eels and turtles glide through the bay was so relaxing. Convenient snorkeling in the next bay. You can rent snorkel equipment right on the beach. Although there is better equipment available elsewhere. Pay parking for the rental car but there is a shuttle bus that runs every twenty minutes from the hotel to take you around Kona. Overall me and my husband were very happy with the accommodations. House-keeping was rather sporadic. They gave you new towels whether you needed them or not. Not too much attention to detail. Actually took my own personal towel to the laundry one day. It took days to get it back because laundry is sent out but I did get it back. The concierges were extremely helpful for booking activities. Many children in the hotel looked like they had tons of fun in the swimming pool. Free buffet breakfast was fantastic. All the hotel employees were very nice. Catch the happy hour in the bar from 4 to 6. Menu is limited in the bar and the restuarant does not serve meals except breakfast due to low occupancy of the hotel.

This is a great hotel with nice rooms and great views. It is also close to Kona and has an excellent snorkeling beach next door. The rooms was big with great beds and decor is updated and modern. The problem is downstairs. There is no life here. We stayed Sunday through Wednesday and only the bar restaurant was open. There was no music, not even recorded music. There were also very few people. As a result we chose to eat elsewhere- down the road at the Royal Kona which had much better life with live music and tons of people. This hotel also needs to renovate its pool area. Take out the kiddie pool and put in a hot tub. Replace the scorching hot deck with something that repels heat. Set-up a pool side bar or maybe a swim-up bar. The hotel could also make better use of its very attractive grounds by serving dinner out there. This place has so much potiential. If it's going to survive and compete with the resorts in Kohala, it's going to have to step up it a notch or two.
Where's the Aloha spirit?

I rarely write anything but positive comments. This resort, currently being rennovated, situated amongst tide pools, is a nice enough facility. It is a good distance from Kailua and the complimentary breakfast is, at best, adequate. The real turnoff for us, however, was the staff (restaurant staff excluded!) We've stayed in many different hotels in this area and were underwhelmed with the concierge, the front desk and, to a lesser extent, the valet. The concierge desk (long lines) was of very little help and had limited knowledge. The staff at reception was unfriendly by Hawaii standards. Upon checking out (and we were in a hurry) I could not get the single woman to get off her personal call to print out our folio and finally left without it. I would not stay there again, but am writing this so that hopefully the General Manager will read this and expend a few dollars training the staff.
