A Day @ the Beach, with bad restaurant experiences

We stayed overnight for one day at the beach (2 adults, 3 tweens) to conclude our Spring Break vacation. The beach was beautiful. The pool area very nice. The room was nice, but a bit crowded for a party of 5.
Generally the staff was excellent. They place a high value in calling each customer by name, etc.
We ate 2 meals in the casual restaurant. Each time the food was good, but the service was abysmal. Long delays between visits from the wait-staff; requested drink re-fills that never came. For the evening meal, the greeter was down-right rude. She informed us the wait was 45 minutes. No problem I thought. We gave her our name and went to browse through the shops. When we came back 43 minutes later we received a dressing down from her for returning too early. I can not recall ever being made to feel less welcome. Once seated it took another 30 mintues for the waiter to stop by to say he was "busy". It all went downhill from there. I certainly expected better from a hotel of this caliber.
While it may not be fair, this one aspect of the Don's operation definitely left me with a poor overall impression.

This hotel is excellent for both buisness and family vacation. Everything offered here is of high quality from the accomodations themselves to beach activitites and staff support during the stay.

The hotel was a great place to geat away for a few days. It was the off season for this area when we traveled but still had a great time in and around the hotel grounds. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic at the hotels dining areas. We look forward to going again next year.

We were traveling from Clearwater Beach to Siesta Key and wanted to stop here for the famous ice cream at Uncle Andy's, it is located on the lower level of the hotel. It was 7/7/07 and there were 7 weddings planned that day, the traffic was crazy, we tried to use valet parking but the consierge wanted to charge us $18, so we opted to find a public parking space close by. We ended up with a $20 parking ticket, so it would have been cheaper to use valet. The hotel is amazing, absolutely beautifully restored from when it was purchased by the federal govenment after the war. The pool area is nice and the beach is great too. The staff was helpful and friendly, I just wish there was more parking for tourists like us.
