Great facility--but the staff...?

We had problems starting at check-in. What a great start to a family reunion! We were informed at check-in--not when we called the hotel for a block of rooms, but after 5 families had traveled there--that if we paid for the rooms with debit cards, our cards would be debited DOUBLE our charge. When we complained about not having been told that earlier, the staff did nothing but recite, "It's the bank's policy, not ours." There was nothing that we could do to communicate that debiting our bank accounts DOUBLE would be a problem! They also promised adjoining rooms on the phone, but claimed not to know what we were talking about upon our arrival, and suggested that we complain to the operator who took our reservation at the 800 number. Because that would do what exactly...? Nice hotel, dingbat staff.
