Express by Holiday Inn

As we planned our holiday in Scotland and the Lake District of England, we wanted to include Edinburgh, although we really didn’t have time. So, we compromised, we would stay overnight in Perth at Holiday Inn Express as a stopping point and see Edinburgh the next day on our way back to Manchester.

We have stayed in Holiday Inn properties on plenty of occasions, but never in an Express. After struggling to find it situated on the edge of town, we were actually quite surprised at how pleasant we found it. The friendly hotel reception offered a quick check-in and a map of the town with directions to the local ASDA for some necessary supplies.

Our room was compact but had everything we really needed right there for us. Both our room and bathroom was sparkling clean and there were tea and coffee facilities available. The colour scheme of the room seemed a bit primary, but I really shouldn’t complain about colour when everything else was fine. There was even a small couch tucked into one side of the room.

Breakfast was included in our rate—that is, if you dare brave the morning crush. We would have better off just skipping this atrocious attempt at trying to eat a simple breakfast. There were loads of adults and children trying to get some breakfast. The hotel seemed to be short on cutlery and bowls. Once we finally got these few items, I had to go up to the reception area to ask if they would please bring out some glasses so I could have juice. This was definitely the low point of the hotel. Once we finally did get something to eat it wasn’t that great anyways.

Overall, this was a pleasant place to stay if you are looking for a no-frills stopover hotel. Our room and bathroom were clean, reception was helpful and friendly and the room had everything we needed for a comfortable night’s stay—just don’t bother with breakfast.
