Haus Am Moos

Haus Am Moss, on the outskirts of Salzburg, about a 15-minutes bus ride from the city, is the wonderful, comfortable, and elegant home of the Strasser Family. I discovered Haus Am Moos through the Salzburg Tourist guide. I logged on to their website at www.ammoos.at I was extremely surprised to find one of the best-designed and well-appointed sites I have come across to date. As you know, what you see is sometimes not what you get in reality. However, Haus Am Moos is even much better than its site. Herr and Frau Strasser are the epitome of the “Old True Salzburg Hospitality,” welcoming, warm, friendly, and informative. Nothing is too much trouble, and if they can help, they will. The house is situated in well-designed and landscaped gardens in the shadow of majestic Untersberg Mountain in a semi-rural location, with buses passing every 15 minuets to the city centre. The rooms are all individually designed with great attention to detail. Although some bathrooms are small, they are more than adequate. Each room has satellite TV and a CD player and Radio, and some have a balcony equipped with chairs and tables. As you enter the Haus Am Moos through the main door, you are faced with this wonderful marble and wrought iron staircase leading you up to the various rooms and apartments. One has to continue to remind oneself that this is a Privat Zimmer establishment, as it puts to shame some of the three- and four-star hotels in Salzburg. I have visited Salzburg about 10 times, and this is by far the best I have stayed in, regardless of category. The breakfast room is like the rest of the house--elegant, with the same minute attention to detail. The breakfast buffet is sumptuous, where both host and hostess are always on hand, creating a laid-back and well-run establishment, and they both speak English. This is an unbelievable value for the money, probably the very best you will find in Salzburg at 23 Euro to share a double or 27 Euro for a single. For those music buffs that are visiting for Mozart’s 250th birthday in 2006, this is the ideal location in very elegant surroundings with sincere and genuine Salzburg hospitality. This is one not to be missed. It comes highly recommended.
