Do Not Stay Here--It Is Horrible!

My husband and I stayed 4 nghts at the Point Pleasant resort in July 2009. Although the views from the hotel, which has been built and is located high up on the hilltops, is beautiful, you could find better in the area. There are no elevators and there is very steep walking areas just to get around the hotel . Although there is a shuttle that will pick you up anywhere around the resort, we found it to be annoying to have to use that just to get around. We anticipated the hills and the hiking to get around the resort but didn;t expect that it would be really too uncomfortable for us. After a long day at the beach...the last thing you want to do is hike 40 steps to your room in that heat! The hotel does not offer breakfast at either of the 2 restaurants so you would either have to have your own car or take the complimentary shuttle from the hotel next door to the Wyndham to eat. We chose to stock up on breakfast foods since we stayed in a superior suite with a full kitchen. The Agave Terrace restaurant has good food, great views, great service, but a little expensive. There is also no room service, but only take out from either of the 2 restaurants on the property. We also rented a car, which is highly recommended, if you don't mind driving on the left side of the road. Our suite was clean but really outdated. The whole property needs renovations and the front desk staff were really not too friendly. The beaches on the property are a joke...you can't even swim there....the pools are small, nothing special. There is no wi-fi access from the rooms and only from the lobby area....we didn't even try it since it would be a hike just to get there! Overall, I would recommend you stay next door at the Wyndham...they have so much more to offer, it is prettier, more updated and will make your vacation more enjoyable. If you rent a car you must visit Megans beach, it is the most gorgeous beach and I hear this beach is on the top 10 beaches list in the world!

Best Things About the Resort:
The two restaurants--Agave Terrace and Fungis. Other than that--nothing.

Resort Experience:

Point Pleasant Resort has a multitude of problems—poor quality of rooms, poor maintenance of the resort, and horrible guest service! We had a destination wedding with 66 guests at Agave Terrace Restaurant on Point Pleasant Resort on October 8, 2005 (which is an amazing restaurant and did a tremendous job). Out of convenience, nearly all of our guests stayed at Point Pleasant--approximately 30 rooms in total. We cannot express how dissatisfied, angry, and hurt we are that Point Pleasant detracted from our wedding. The resort's staff, particularly its management, is so rude that you feel like every problem or question you have is an imposition and you have to beg for service!! Plus, nobody is at the front desk after 8pm and security is unwilling to handle any problems at night. Some of the rooms were so moldy that many guests had severe allergy problems. A two-bedroom villa had cockroaches and another room had bug problems. The hotel management didn't seem to care; in fact, they were very upset with us for bringing up the problems. It took our friend almost 1 hour to find one of the rooms. The reason was a sign was pointed the wrong way. We told the assistant manager on duty and she just shrugged her shoulders.

The resort is so hilly that you need a shuttle to get around--the problem is that the shuttle takes forever to pick you up and stops running at 8pm, which makes getting around the resort at night nearly impossible. The resort is poorly lit and has poorly maintained and dangerous walking paths, so getting to your room in the dark is treacherous. The resort advertises that it has two beaches--that is an outright lie--it has one patch of sand that is nearly impossible to find by following signs, and the other "beach" really belongs to an abandoned resort, so it is not maintained and the path to it from Point Pleasant is virtually nonexistent. The Resort has a severe mosquito problem, so all of our guests were eaten up. It also has a problem with ferrell cats and rats. In addition, the resort only permits one cab company to operate from the resort (according to others on the island, this was the result of a kickback). That cab company charges 20% to 30% more than other cabs for similar routes and has very rude drivers and poorly maintained cabs. We would never recommend that anyone stay here!!
