If you want a very romantic vacation, we would suggest another location as this resort is crowded and all about fun. Also, the rooms are basically just rooms, nothing special, though very clean and the maid service daily was great.
The excursion desk is excellent and offers many options. We especially liked the all day trip to Coba.
Playa Carmen is a close taxi ride away and you can shop, go clubbing or even take the ferry from there to Cozumel.

The resort is located in the Playacar area, which is a gated area of condos and resorts only minutes from Playa Del Carmen. Viva Maya is a mandatory all inclusive resort. Viva has one of the larger beaches in the area, but like all of them, they are getting hit hard by surf. Viva has plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach but get down their early to get the prime spots. Viva also has a pool with a swim up bar.
The resort has a large main dinning buffet that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with menu that changes daily with items that should make any one happy. The resort also serves a lunch down by the beach bar that was very popular, serving pizza, hot dogs burgers, french fries, tacos, and pasta. There also is a soft serve ice cream machine that the kids loved. The other 2 resturants at Viva are reservation only, the Portofino and Viva Mexico, both of these have exellent service and food. My wife and I have had a great time on each of our visits and our children have asked when they can come back.

But I did take note of the B&B's in the area. There are a few for such a small village, including one right across the road, and they all looked good. In fact, there was one that used to be a wealthy landowner's house, its quite large, right there on one of the cliffs.
I was told all the B&Bs could be found either on the internet or in one of the B&B books you buy when you get there (from the Irish Tourist Board office located at the airport or in one of the offices located in almost every major city).
