Best Things Nearby:
Located in the center of the Connecticut shoreline, Waters edge is the perfect location for a vacation. Within a 30 minute drive is Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, Hammonasett State Beach, loads of antique stores, the Westbrook and Clinton outlets, Mohegan Sun casino, Gillette Castle, Goodspeed Opera House, Essex steam train and New London Beach Park are just a few of the things to do in the area. For the sports minded there are golf courses, fishing, boating, state parks for ample biking and hiking.

Best Things About the Resort:
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. With a large beach at its back door, how could it be more perfect. The beautiful manicured lawns and flowers add to beauty of the resort. They have both an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts and weight room. Activities galore through out the day all summer long. The restaurant is excellent, elegent and perfect for that wonderful dinner for two overlooking the water. They serve an outstanding Sunday buffet that is to not be missed. The menu is a little on the expensive side, so it is not for the budget concensious.

Resort Experience:
A beautiful and relaxing oasis on the shores of Connecticut. Spend your days relaxing by the water or taking part in the many activities at the resort. They have childrens activites and swimming lessons through out the day. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a family getaway.

If you are there on July 4th go out back and sit on the beach and watch everyone set off the fireworks along the shoreline.

Holland America

Holland America

We booked our cruise through a travel agent and through Holland America.

I had heard about cruise line upgrades but never, on previous cruises with other lines, have I ever received one.

One day I was watching Oprah and they had an expert on that said "Book the cheapest room (inside cabin $699) and they will up grade you from there." We booked everything (plane flight, overnight stay in Ft. Lauderdale under $3000) through Holland America and I think that is why we received an upgrade to an outside room with a window.

We saved $1500 for that. Our dinner partners were an airline captain and his wife who did not book their airline through Holland America and did not receive an upgrade.

I am only guessing but I think booking everything through Holland America was what gave us an advantage.

I believe that makes $700 for the cruise (pp) $550 for the flight, $200 (double occ) for a 2 room suite at the Sheraton Towers and all transfers. In the long run it doesn't look like such a bargain but we were guaranteed that if we didn't make the boat (the world being what it is now a days) we would be brought in by helicopter. It was worth my piece of mind.
