Water's Edge Inn & Resort

Best Things Nearby:
Beach, golf, wineries, and aquarium.

Best Things About the Resort:
Wonderful place, very clean, friendly staff, and was kept up very well.

Resort Experience:
This resort sits on the water with most units having a ocean view. Each unit has it own balcony and has a large living area.

No real activites for kids - our son played in their "playground" for about five minutes and that was it - only one piece and kind of hidden.

The pool and Jacuzzi are on the beach, so you have to walk to get to them, but they are nice.

The restaurant is good, but a bit overpriced. They offer room service, which was very convenient.

We had a one bedroom with a kitchenette - it was nothing out of the ordinary - there is a list of everything in the room as well as a price list in the event something is "missing" when you leave so you will know how much they are going to charge you. You could not park near your room - they did have valet parking - but the parking lot was a good hike from each room.

If you were on the first floor you got clean towels and clean linen on Monday's - second floor on Tuesday's - if you wanted them to bring towels any other days you had to pay $15.00 and if you wanted the room cleaned any other days it was $25.00 -- otherwise you could take your dirty towels to the lobby by the guest laundry and they would exchange towels or linen for you, I guess at no charge!!

They did have a lounge and restaurant on site - a bit on the expensive side - but nice. If there were any activities we were not told of any. The staff was pleasant but not overly friendly.

Condominios Marina San Carlos

Puerto Aventuras is a lovely place. I enjoyed the low key atmosphere. A subsequent visit to Cancun was too busy, too crowded, and too commercial. Awful accommodations at the Condominios Marina San Carlos. The refrigerator was old and rusted, and the lighting was poor. There was rust in the bathtub, shower stalls, and toilets. I couldn't bathe. We moved to a condominium nearby the next day that was beautiful. The exchange was a waste of money.

Best Things Nearby:
Mystic Aquarium and shops . . . 45 minutes; Foxwoods Casino . . . 40 minutes; Mohegan Sun Casino . . . 25 minutes . . . free concerts nightly; Groton Sub Base . . . 30 minutes (tour an old sub).

Best Things About the Resort:
This is a nice resort, very spacious and elegant. Not your typical family resort, but you will find some children.

Resort Experience:
Located on the ocean, the resort has a wonderful view . . . It's a very elegant dining experiance; they treat you like royalty, so you'd better act like it, too. Also here are two swimming pools, indoor and outdoor; a weight room; and a sauna. My love for this place came on a Wednesday night, when in the middle of the green was a reggae band. You could order a drink, watch the band, and overlook the water--what a delight . . . The summer is beautiful, with plenty of shopping at Clinton Crossing outdoor mall, or the more budget-consious Westbrook Outlet 15 minutes away . . .

This is a great romantic getaway . . .

Pondok Senaru Guesthouse

Pondok Senaru Guesthouse

The main centre for Rinjani treks, Senaru has a good supply of quality accommodation.

This place has about a dozen rooms – a mix of doubles and twins all with porches that command excellent views over the forest and mount Rinjani. Unfortunately the rooms, despite being beautiful, do have a few drawbacks – the walls on some rooms are little more than woven Rattan, so you can talk though the walls or hear the traffic on the nearby street, and in all cases the showers are cold water only. On the up side the hotel will provide flasks of hot water for washing free of charge. The restaurant area is set high up with good views of not only the forest and Rinjani, but also the nearby waterfall.
