Water's Edge Resort and Spa

  • August 15, 2005

Best Things Nearby:
Outlet malls, restaurants, and a movie theatre

Best Things About the Resort:
On the Long Island Sound, it has an indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub, a restaurant, an outdoor bar and grill, and a spa.

Resort Experience:
The resort is in a very nice location looking over the Long Island Sound. On most days, you are able to see over to Long Island. There is a main building with regular hotel rooms and then, outside of the main building, there are timeshare villas. The resort has plenty of things to do. There are activities for children during the day at the pool and beach area, and at night there is live entertainment at the Sunset Bar and Grill. Everyday I stayed at the resort there was at least one wedding. On Sundays there is a huge buffet set up in the restaurant with loads of food and lots of people. In fact, it was voted Best Sunday Brunch in Connecticut by CT Magazine. The resort is great, and I know you'll have a good time if you stay there.

Best Things Nearby:
This is located right off I-95 and next to the Westbrook and Clinto Shopping outlets. There is a Goodspeed Opera House nearby, the Essex Steam Train, the Mystic Aquarium, and Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos.

Best Things About the Resort:
The restaurant and the service are great, even if it is overpriced. The Sunday brunch was amazing, very gourmet, and with great variety and exciting choices, but you have to be able to eat a lot. There are indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, and saunas, steam rooms, and a fitness center inside. There is also a spa, which provides massages for a fee. There are also tennis courts. The main building includes a hotel, where weddings and events take place.

Resort Experience:
The atmosphere of the resort invites relaxation. The resort is new, and most of the units have a view of the ocean. The private beach has chairs, umbrellas, and offers gazebos for a fee. The outside part of the restaurant serves great Boston chowder.

The units are spacious, and the one-bedroom was very large, with a kitchenette: stove, microwave, and refrigerator. Some rooms include fireplaces. The view of the ocean from the balcony was great.

The grounds are very well groomed and have beautiful flowers blossoming everywhere.

Best Things Nearby:
There are many local theaters, including the Goodspeed Opera House, Gillette Castle and its wonderful grounds, the beautiful towns of Essex and Chester (they are a must in an area of lovely, quaint New England towns and villages), Long Island Sound, great shopping, casinos, Rhode Island, Mystic, and Old Saybrook.

Best Things About the Resort:
This is a first-class resort. Our unit was called a one-bedroom but is really a two-bedroom, as there is a very large loft area that has twin beds. We had a kitchenette, which consisted of a stovetop, microwave oven, and refrigerator. It was very adequate for a couple but could be challenging for a family (very little cabinet space). The living room included a fireplace, which was a nice option.

The resort is located on Long Island Sound, with a private beach and outdoor pool. There is also an indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room, and fitness room.

Resort Experience:
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The main building, which includes a hotel, has a great restaurant and lounge. (The indoor pool and fitness area are also located here.) The Sunday brunch is something to see!! We didn't take part in it simply because neither of us could eat that much! But we talked to many of the guests who had attended and heard raving about the food and service.

Resort Experience:
This is a beautiful resort, even if you go there off-season, as we did. Some of the positives include:

Spacious rooms and layout of the unit:
Our unit had a loft, so even though it was a one-bedroom, six adults had plenty of privacy. Each room is very open and very well-decorated, with high ceilings. The living room furniture is very comfortable, and all of the furniture was very high-quality. The entire unit had lots of closets and storage areas! The kitchen had every gadget wanted (though, with the restaurant, we didn’t eat any dinners in).
A fireplace in the living room which, along with the VCR, lent itself to relaxing (and romantic) evenings.
An indoor pool and an exercise room to burn off some calories.
A fantastic restaurant right on-site (so good that others drive for many miles for dinner). There is also a nice lounge area for after-dinner drinks and many nights there is entertainment.
A beautiful view of the ocean--obviously, it was too cold to go swimming, but sitting on the beach, overlooking the Long Island Sound, was wonderful.
Close to other activities, including two casinos, Mystic Seaport, and our weekend at the Davis Cup Tennis tournament.
Finally, all of the staff was very friendly. I especially appreciated the bellhop bringing my "belongings" to the room, since it was pouring outside. The only negative about this timeshare is that there is quite a distance between where you can park and where your unit may be.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location. in the middle of CT jsut off I95. Close to major attractions, casinos, retail outlets and small community events.

Resort Experience:
Located on the beach. Very nice resort. Loft rooms are very spacious. All units lack a dishwasher and laundry facilities in them as well as an oven. Loft unit bedroom has a king bed. Loft has two twins and the living area has a pull-out sofa. Great spa and indoor pool as well as exercise room, sauna, and did I mention it's located on the beach?
