I was a guest at the Marriott Los Suénos. To get there, we drove through the ultra-scenic mountains between San Jose and Playa Herredura. It’s about a 2-hour drive from the closest international airport, San José international airport (SJO). The hotel is in a private community. There is a golf course, spa (Poseidon), marina, and a water-purification centre. The hotel is in a walled area that is basically half of the beach and was beautiful.
It’s designed in a refined Costa Rican traditional fashion. The pool is beautiful and great for kids to play in. The rooms are also very comfortable. The doors are made from distressed wood and other elements of the room design convey the feeling of tropical luxury.
The hotel staff is very accommodating and there is a group of people whose only job is to keep you entertained. They give Latin dance demonstrations, classes, and local fruit samples. They really do a good job keeping everyone happy.
The area also has a lot to offer. There are many ATV tours, canopy tours, croc tours, and more. The nearby city of Jaco is a cool place to visit, not to stay. There are many stray dogs. There are golf courses, a spa, a marina, and lots of land. Every morning we would wake up early and hike to the top of the mountain. From there we saw the most beautiful views.
