Maisons de Bricourt

After 2 days of touring the battle fields of Normandy, we asked our travel agent to recommend an upscale Relais Chateau that we could chill out in for our last days in France and take in the Mussles region and home to Mont-Saint-Michel.

We drove for quite a while in search for this place, thinking it was going to be a bit closer to the Normandy region. As night fell and it began to rain, we cursed our travel agent for choosing a place that was so far away.

BOY, were we surprised when we arrived. It was one of the most beautiful chateaus we have ever stayed in, and our room was as big as a suite. Being tired from our touring and travels, we ate in the gourmet restaurant Le Coquillage, which takes up most of the ground floor of the "house" -- one of the best meals we have had in France. Due to its locale, seafood was the specialty, and it was spectacular. After dinner, we retired to the library and sipped some port while talking about the events of the day. We were happy to stay here.

When we awoke in the morning, our view overlooked the Baie of St. Michel, and then Cancale Oyster beds - we could also make out the profile of the massive "church-island" in the distance.

We were also close to the fishing town of Cancale, home to amazing seafood restaurants.

Maisons de Bricort is a place I will always remember.
