Description: The Alpenruh is the ultimate hotel in Murren clinging cliffside with incredible views of the Lauterbrunnen valley.
Transportation Note: If you're traveling with a Swiss pass, it's valid ALL the way up to Murren. Eurail pass holders will pay additional. From Interlaken train to Lauterbrunnen, you have two choices. Take the funicular from the building behind the train station. You'll arrive at the "front" of the town. Walk through the town to the Alpenruh at the other end. It's only a 10 minute walk. Another option, which is better if you didn't pack light, is to take the postal bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechlberg, about 10 minutes. From Stechelberg the cable car ascends to Murren. Reaching Murren, you'll walk out of the cable car building and the hotel is right there!
Price listed could be less - $100.00 - $125.00 range missing.
Cozy rooms, paneled in light wood, face the mountains looking across the valley. After a day of mountain hikes there's nothing better than picking up a bottle of wine and some cheese at the market and crashing in your deck chair, which reclines like a lounger to a comfortable feet up position. Rooms have a small refrigerator - great for storing your wine and cheese.
Typical Swiss rooms feature two single beds pushed together, with a wonderful, pristine white down comforter for each. If you like top sheets, forget it! Remember, this is wonderful traditional Swiss - simply a down comforter fluffed up and folded on a bottom sheet.
With a spacious wooden wardrobe, and hooks and a bench off the doorway, there's decent storage for two travelers. Bathroom lacks a tub but has a great shower.
Plentiful breakfast is included. Breakfast features typical Swiss muesli cereal (quite good), a generous selection of cold cuts and sliced cheese, hearty grain bread to slice, yogurt, etc. You'll love the charming breakfast room. Be sure to sit by the window and enjoy the mountain views with that second cup of coffee. Or pass on breakfast at the hotel and head up to have a "James Bond" breakfast in the 360 degree revolving restaurant atop the Schilthorn. It'll take you about 1/2 hr total to get up there. (See activities.) Breakfast is included; however the ticket up to the Schilthorn is not. Before heading up, check the television monitor in the lobby to make sure the weather is clear. Otherwise, you could buy a ticket to the Schilthorn only to ascend into clouds.
Special bonus: bring your bathing suit because your have privileges at the Murren fitness center: great indoor pool there!
Friendly desk staff - don't miss this hotel.
