Thomas Jefferson's "Monticello" is wonderful to visit, as you learn so much about the man here! Walking through Mr. Jefferson's gardens with a tour guide was such a wonderful experience, too! Guests are welcome to a tomato or two if they’d like, and the staff at Monticello, who tend the gardens, are too!
There is much Civil War history in the surrounding area, including in the vicinity of the town of New Market.
Best Things About the Resort:There are a lot of great things about the resort. The umpteen number of activities - SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM - makes it a super vacation spot in our book!
We attended the Wednesday-night Murder Mystery Dinner Theater held right on the resort premises - and it was tremendous fun! The food was great, too!
It's awesome being right in the mountains, as it feels very special. There are mountain trails to hike, too - in fact, the resort provides escorted hikes!
Resort Experience:It's a wonderfully laid out resort that is very large, with many - and varied - timeshare units. There are countless activities, as shown on the weekly schedule, for owners and guests every day of the week.
The pools are great and there are several, both indoor and outdoor. There is a WATER PARK being built as I write this, and it won't be very long before it will be open!
The Murder Mystery Dinner Theater was great, as was the Great American Music Review show, which was held at the ski lodge. Also, the Ice Cream Social held on Thursday afternoon on the deck of the Ski Lodge was a fun and oh-so-tasty event!
Our unit, a lower level one at The Summit, was all we could want for the week! It had great views off the deck - and THAT was a very lovely place to relax! At The Summit, it's pretty private! A feeling of well-being prevailed!
This was an RCI bonus week for us in late-July, early August -- we felt we had been very lucky to get it, and we hopefully will get there again!

North on US route 33 is Skyline Drive. It was a very scenic view of the valley. We hiked the Stony Man Trail to an elevation of 4,010 feet, which ends at a breathtaking view of the Shenandoah Valley.
As a family, we enjoyed the candlemaking workshop very much and would highly reccommend it!
We were disappointed that the water park was not open during our stay and may not be open until next year.
Also disappointing was the mattress in the master bedroom - it was pitted in the center and needed replacement. The sheets were old and did not stay on.
Other than that, the apartment was great and spacious.
Word to the wise: do not get the activities card if you are planning on doing most of your activities outside of the resort. Choose the activities within the resort first and determine whether you will be saving money before purchasing the card. Heed their advice and reserve space in the classes early!!!

Washington, DC, is around a two-hour drive from the resort. The resort has trips arranged if you do not want to drive.Best Things About the Resort:The resort was clean and nicely decorated. The staff are friendly and helpful. It has a sport centre consisting of an indoor basketball court, swimming pool, tennis court, pool tables, excerise room, game area etc. They have ponds for fishing. We didn't try it because it was still cold in March. A lot of activities are availble for purchase. You won't be bore in the resort even if you don't take a trip outside the resort.Resort Experience:You will be surprised by the size of the Jacuzzi in the main bathroom. The gas fireplace in the living room is also a nice addition. We were very pleased with our unit. Although the kitchen is labelled as a partial kitchen, it has most of the things you wish. You don't have the stove and oven, but you are compensated with a gas BBQ on the patio, an electric grill, an electric fry pan, and a double range top.
