Best Things Nearby:
The town of Lake City is a charming little community with friendly people. Lots of shopping there. Lake San Cristobal is an unbelievably beautiful lake nearby. It's surrounded by the San Juan Mountain range.

Best Things About the Resort:
Castle Lakes has on-site Jeep 4X4 rentals, and they are located right on the Alpine Loop National Backcountry Byway. An absolute must is the 4x4 trek over Cinnamon Pass at nearly 13,000 ft elevation over to Silverton. Not for the faint of heart! And the trout we caught in the private lake there was pheonominal. The owners are wonderful, too.

Resort Experience:
Peaceful forest setting with two private lakes stocked for fishing. Cabins furnished modestly but quite accomodating with everything you need to feel right at home. The property offers RV hook-ups as well as tent sites and cabin/mobile home rentals. Be prepared for an adventure and some great sights on the way to this little hideaway. Mountain roads are much longer than they appear on the map, so plan extra time for your drive. We drove from North Texas in about 14 hours. It's so pretty, you won't mind the long drive at all.

Very clean and Western style rooms with excellent service and an English speaking staff. The beds were Western style and either king size or twin double beds were available. The hotel boasts a bar, sauna, hair salon, and a modest "nightclub." The hotel is very secure and has individual safe boxes in each room. The hot water does not come on until about 0730 in the morning and appears to be clean. There is a store right next to the hotel where one can purchase food of any kind.
