This place only opened in 2003 and so is not in many of the guidebooks, but it is building a strong reputation.
The recent build is evident from the thought that has gone into its design. Each room is a cabin that faces away from the street towards a central garden, creating an oasis of calm.
One note of caution, though: the neighbouring disco is very loud on Friday evenings, so avoid staying here that night.
It is also clear that they are working hard to build a reputation, as they will bend over backwards to help you. In only a few days, the guy there, Jose, offered valuable advice on horse-riding tours, future accommodation options, and the local Mandango trail. They really were spectacularly helpful, even to leaving me a thermos of coffee to get me up and moving for my 6am bus.
Prices were reasonable, with $10 getting a room for one.
The breakfast here at the Rendez Vous is a thing of beauty, with proper coffee, and uniquely for Ecuador, proper whole-meal bread (homemade every day), together with plenty of fresh fruit.
Each cabin comes equipped with a hammock, and there is surely no better way to unwind than snoozing as you are gently rocked by the warm breeze.
I really couldn't fault the Rendez Vous. Such a great place, such great people, such a great time.
