Just north of Anahola, this very private vacation rental is below the owner’s house. It has a large one bedroom and a miniature kitchen. Phone usage is shared with the only other unit downstairs. There are lush surroundings, and the owners basically left us alone unless they were needed. He built the place himself, and there is a great attention to detail. It is near the end of a street and a 400-yard walk to a quiet secluded beach that is good for snorkeling and sunrises. It has a very local feel to it. There is a queen-size bed, a marble shower in the bathroom, and an outdoor shower for after the beach separated by shoji screens from the living area and kitchen. There is koa wood and bamboo architecture, and sliding screen doors with bamboo handles are a plus for those looking for the real island feel. With tax, it costs about $100 night.
