The Irish Cottage looks like it should be in the rolling hills of Ireland, but it instead is in the rolling hills of northern Illinois. It is a well-thought-out tribute to lodgings in Ireland, from the welcoming check-in with a student from Ireland to the breakfast each morning of "rashers, eggs, and tomatoes" (or for those braver, the black pudding). There is a full spa and salon available, which was a wonderful addition to a weekend away. Frank O'Doud's pub was a great night spot in the quiet town of Galena. Irish dancers and/or an Irish band each night give guests a taste of the old country.
