Staying in this hotel was fascinating. Hotel Lowengraben is a completely modernized European hotel, but it still has the look and feel of its former occupation, a prison! That's right. In the 19th century this hotel housed criminals, and when you're shown to your room, for a moment, you may feel like one.
The doors are heavy wood, you'll need a numbered code to get in. Inside the room, you'll have a small bed, bars on your windows. Look up at the ceiling for an art surprise, and be sure to hang out at the bars and restaurants downstairs, they are cool and will be filled with people.
Staying at this hotel was an enjoyable and memorable experience.

In the heart of the Old Town, just steps from the main shopping area, you'll find an almost unassuming facade - but why on Earth have all the windows got bars? Well, this building has served, since medieval times, as a prison and has been fully updated, renovated, and offers every budget-conscious traveler with a young spirit a place to rest. It has more of a youth hostel spirit to it; however, it's a very fun way to spend a couple of nights in Lucerne with full anemities. Every "cell", or room, door has its own keyless entry, a friendly and clean atmosphere, and the most comfortable bunk beds ever! And if you're so lucky to stay in Lucerne during Carnival Season - usually during mid- to end of February, this is the best spot to have a room overlooking Loewengraben Strasse and the parades and flotillas that go by. www.loewengraben.ch (currently under construction)
