Our first room was a diaster - very old, TV/lights didn't work, and it smelled like mold. I complained vehemently, and they finally acquiesed and moved us grudgingly to a newer room. The new room was adequate, but nothing nicer than, say, a Hampton Inn or Days Inn.
The resort pools are nice, and the beach is great. The staff is happy to be employed but won't go out of their way for you. The food was horrible. The resort was all inclusive, but we ate off the property at least twice a day because the flies and birds in the dining hall disgusted me.
I am not a princess - I have hosteled all over Europe, and I know how to rough it - but I do not stand bad sanitation. And when I pay for luxury (over $250/night), I expect much better than this.
