Vera Beach Club

Best Things Nearby:
Beaches, restaurants and bars, a grocery on site, marina and small fishing village, Moorish hillside city of Mojacar.

Best Things About the Resort:
In a quieter location than Costa Del Sol. Excellent on-site restaurant, plus about half a dozen more restaurants within two blocks. Promenade from the resort to the fishing village of Garrucha, which is also filled with restaurants. The units are cute and well equipped. There was a bottle of red wine as a gift in the unit and a complimentary card for bottle of wine with a meal at the on-site Dali Restaurant.

Resort Experience:
The units are in two-story buildings, some with four units, some with two or three, depending on size. They are very close together so the balconies offer no privacy at all. The units are light and airy with lots of windows. There are no dishwashers in the one-bedroom units at least, but there was a washing machine- no dryer. The one-bedroom has only twin beds.

There are two beautiful swimming pools, but the weather did not allow us to determine if they were pleasant to frequent.

Victorian Quarters B&B

Victorian Quarters B & B is a beautifully restored Italianate home built in 1865, centrally located in downtown Henderson overlooking the Ohio River. The unique architectural details throughout the home are richly enhanced by gorgeous antique furniture faithful to that time period. Three guest suites are lavishly decorated, unique and spacious. The beds are stunning centerpieces, massive structures handsomely carved, clearly from another era, adorned with soft, comforters and pillows. These are not merely rooms, but suites with separate living/sitting areas, full kitchens and bedrooms. These generous quarters certainly encourage longer stays, and apparently do, for a recent guest spent nearly six months here.

My favorite was the king suite which is large enough to be an apartment. It has a spacious living room decorated in restful greens and a separate kitchen with full-sized appliances. In all my years of staying at B&B''s, I do not remember a suite with a full kitchen. It was an unexpected surprise. I love the unique antique bed with its'' delicate canopy that requires a step stool to enter. It does feel like "home away from home" like the owner intended.

A full breakfast is served at a beautiful inlaid table in the formal dining room. Owner Coy Owen serves a "good southern breakfast" with two inch pork chops, fried potatoes, homemade biscuits, fruit, quiches, or eggs and sausage. Teas are offered in the afternoon, and snacks are stocked in each suite.

Outside, you can relax in comfortable wicker rockers as you watch barges drift lazily down the river, or take a walking tour of the historical homes in the neighborhood. Several parks, antique stores, specialty shops, coffee houses, restaurants and tennis courts are within walking distance. You will feel safe wandering around here. It''s also a premiere location when area festivals take place in the riverside parks just a couple blocks away. Simply walk over to the park with your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a free evening of bluegrass or blues music in the summer months.

It''s best to call weeks or months in advance, for this lovely B&B stays full most of the year. Contact Victorian Quarters.
