Heart of Gold

A cool hostel in the heart of culture and transportation network. The location is excellent with its proximity to U-bahn, S-bahn and M-bus. If you are into culture, Museum Island is within a 5-minute walking distance; galleries, art centers and theatres (including the famous Berliner Ensemble) are in the neighbourhood. Food-wise, there are a lot of inexpensive pubs and restaurants. My first lunch was a shwarma sandwich around there. The hostel itself also provides a breakfast buffet for a price. If you're there for more than 3 days, I suggest you to take the breakfast on some days and try out some other places as well, as the same breakfast for a row will wear your appetite out. As to the hostel itself, it's got a cool common area, friendly and helpful staff, and no curfew. The staff really tries to accommodate your request. I stayed in a four bedroom, and it was very clean. If you manage to get into the rooms that look into the inner garden it's even nicer.

Heart of Gold

This is a good hostel with friendly staff.

We originally checked into a hostel right outside the Zoo Station because it was so convenient, but it was quite crowded and a little bit faceless. A friend recommended the Heart of Gold, and we moved there the next night.

It's further away from the main station than some of the other hostels but it's worth making the effort to get there. It's in a great location for lots of the sights (e.g., Reichstag, Alexandersplatz, Brandenburg Gate). It's quite a quirky place with a real atmosphere. Music's pumping out the whole time in reception, and there's some crazy decor (of particular note were the Barbie doll in a cage and the Elmo amidst bottles of spirits).

It was generally a nice hostel: big and spacious and immaculately clean. They have an Internet connection (probably more expensive than EasyInternet but obviously more convenient), they give a good breakfast (served till 12 noon, so there's no hurry), and they serve drinks at reception.

All in all, this is a worthy hostel.
