While there are many small hotels in Kandersteg and one of them is a member of the Leading Small Hotels of the World, the Hotel Victoria Ritter is by far the best. Our room overlooked the Alps and the glacier and was very spacious. The beds were like sleeping on a cloud, which was very nice after a long flight across the Atlantic and a nightmarish layover in Paris. The bathroom had a bathtub the size of a boat. The staff was always courteous and gave tips and suggestions for what to do. Every morning, a breakfast buffet is served in a great room with huge windows and views of the mountains. There is plenty of fresh bread, fruit, cheeses, yogurts, etc. The restaurant's food is to die for, and it is pleasant sitting in the courtyard on a warm summer evening, enjoying a meal. For the children, there is a pool and playroom, and I believe the hotel offers babysitting. The Victoria Ritter also has tennis courts. It is centrally located and within a 5-minute walk from the train station.
