Best Things Nearby:
Right across the street from Jamestown Settlement and Historic Jamestowne. All of Williamsburg's sites are also close by.
Best Things About the Resort:
The location - especially if you tent camp and can get one of the two sites on the bank of the James River. Can't beat the location if you are visiting Jamestown Settlement or Historic Jamestowne. The map says 5 miles to Busch Gardens and 6 1/2 to Colonial Williamsburg.
Resort Experience:
This campground has more than 100 sites available and is directly across the street from Jamestown Settlement. It is also directly on the James River, with a swimming beach. However, only a couple of campsites get a view of the river - and those are tent sites only. We were fortunate enough to get the best one on the nights we were there! Arrive early and hope...
Otherwise, there are wooded sites and sites out in the open. There is a pool that people were using (my kids preferred the beach). They have a miniature golf course, but it sure didn't look like it was used often. They have a small store with some essentials. The restrooms were very clean when we were there.
The worst thing - to us - was the broken glass and cigarette butts that were everywhere. Unfortuantely, that's due to previous campers and not much clean-up effort. We had our kids wear water shoes for playing on the beach - and I sure wouldn't go barefoot anywhere.
From our site, we enjoyed watching the river and the ferry that leaves from there. It was peaceful and quiet - and not crowded (we were there on a Thursday and Friday night). We enjoyed it and would stay there again but would prefer it being a little bit cleaner garbage-wise.
