Radisson St. Louis Downtown

We've had wonderful experiences in the past with Radisson, but this experience in St. Louis was the worst hotel experience we've EVER had.

The one nice thing about this hotel was the location: we had a spectacular view of the arch. The pictures of the arch in this journal were taken from our room.

Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. These are just a few of the negative things we experienced at this hotel.

We had reserved a King Parlor Suite a month in advance, but were given a king room. The suite was to have a bedroom, separate living area, and a kitchenette. We had already paid for the room, with tax, and been given a late arrival guarantee/confirmation number for the suite. After calling the front desk about the mistake, we were given a smoking King Parlor that was in bad condition. The staff was kind enough to let us check out the smoking room to see if it would be okay. Since the hotel was full, we didn't have much of a choice. Plus, we had already paid for the room in full.

The suite was not clean. The bath tub showed age and looked dirty. The bathroom wall was dirty. Room had not been vacuumed and was not during our stay. The bathroom and kitchenette floors were not clean. Adjusting the temp was difficult, as the knobs did not turn smoothly. Radiators showed their age, and they were marked up and beat up badly in some spots. The patio door did not open and close smoothly, and you had to put your body weight behind it to close it. Towels and Kleenex were not appropriately stocked.

The decor was okay. The colors were warm and artwork fine. The kitchenette lighting was a tacky fluorescent light that did not go well with anything else in the suite. Also, the walls in the kitchenette were bare, which was a stark contrast to the other decor in the room.

Room service was inadequate. I ordered a meal and was told it would be up in a half-hour. A half-hour later, I was called and told that they didn't offer that dish anymore (menus were not updated). So, I had to wait longer, after I ordered another dish that was on the menu.

The Union Grill Restaurant left much to be desired. We paid $30 for two adults to eat a breakfast buffet that was mediocre, not to mention that almost every single plate was dirty and silverware at our table was dirty as well.

Be aware if you stay at this hotel that the cleanliness/maintenance standard is low. The staff is cordial, but it did not the level of service I have expected (and received) from other Radisson hotels in the past.
