This former 14th-century monastery, still attached to an active chapel, is situated across the piazza from the ducal palace and the cathedral. It is a wonderful location in the physical center of Urbino for a four star in the Charme and Relax group of hotels. If you are driving, keep on insisting that you want to go to the citta centro. . . there were a few narrow, hill-town streets where I almost despaired of finding it. When you come to the piazza with the cathedral and a lot of car tow-away signs, you are there.
The room had shining, dark-oak floors and was bright, large and airy with two shuttered windows overlooking an interior courtyard (the parking lot). It had a complete bath, king bed, large armoire, chest of drawers, mini-bar and a small desk. It really was very comfortable but I strongly doubt that the monks ever lived so well.
The staff here were English speaking and very helpful, from the lobby desk to the breakfast room.
Downstairs, after the small lobby, there is a pleasant breakfast room and just off that, the secured parking lot. The room was 130 Euros, parking was 8 Euros and breakfast 11 Euros each making it a 160 Euro night in a town of 15,000 people. Not cheap… but you are buying location. This group of hotels does have two or three other properties in Urbino, I suspect they are all class operations. We booked through itwg.
