On Lady Elliot, there are three different types of accommodations available. The least expensive are Tent Cabins. The safari-style tents are permanent structures with timber floors, doors and windows that make spacious and well-tempered rooms. The cabins have a capacity of four people with bunk style or two people with a double bed. All cabins are close to communal bathroom facilities.

Reef Units are wood structures, fan cooled and most have a wonderful view of the coral lagoon. They are equipped with a double bed and two bunk beds, and a private bathroom.

Island Suites are spacious apartment style rooms and are the closest accommodations to the coral lagoon. There are tea and coffee making facilities, a small refrigerator, sink, fan for cooling and a private porch. Several are two-bedroom and that is why we chose the Island Suite. Ours was Unit #12 that was shared with friends. Entering on the Lagoon side through sliding glass doors, there was a large living room area with two large sofas, a coffee table and in one corner a small sink, refrigerator, and electric pot for heating water for coffee or tea. Instant coffee, tea, sugar and cream are provided. There were two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds, with ample closet and drawer space. There was a large shower, sink and mirror in the bathroom and a separate toilet room. It was an absolute joy waking up in the morning to watch the sunrise with the cool ocean breeze blowing through the open windows.

Another very unique feature of Lady Elliot is that there are no locks on any of the doors. There is a safe that you can lock any valuables in at the Registration Office. There are no televisions, no radios or no telephone to distract guests from unwinding in this laid back island paradise. Lady Elliot Island fosters total relaxation and happily emphasizes the great distance between "there" and our hustle & bustle routine back home.
