Description: The Frimurare is a quaint hotel built in what appears to be a renovated convent or dormitory of some sort. The rooms were very spacious, even if they were irregularly shaped. For instance, our room had a fair sized washroom, but you had to walk across the bedroom, open a second door and inside was a wall to wall shower...very strange indeed. On the second level of the hotel was an attractive garden room with cookies, tea and coffee available at all times. Also, the breakfast was delicious and is included in the price of the room.
Now....I should warn you that this cozy and quiet hotel is set right on the main square of Kalmar. During the day we saw many little old ladies and men playing chess and talking on benches. We didn''t understand why earplugs were left on each of our bedside nightstands. We found out when darkness fell and every 16-35 year old in a 75 mile radius showed up to party in the many pubs and bars in the square!!
We decided if you can''t beat ''em join ''em...we had a blast.
We also had another "curious" surprise on one of our bedside nightstands.....I''ll discuss that bizarre experience in the journal entry "Is that a cucumber or are you happy to see me?"
