The Lotus Bed & Breakfast

The Lotus Bed & Breakfast

The Lotus Bed & Breakfast inhabits a beautiful Italian-style mansion originally built in the 1870s. Set in the downtown section of Monroe along Washington Street, it is within walking distance of downtown shopping, cultural attractions, and beautiful strolls down tree-lined streets. Staying in this B&B was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Monroe. It was a pleasure to return each night to our quiet and peaceful room, and to awaken each day surrounded by grand ceilings, fine woodwork, and a pretty garden.

The Lotus only has four rooms, but each is tastefully decorated to match the period of the house, and includes a roomy seating area (some suites have a separate sitting room) for relaxing, eating, and reading.

Although many B&B’s attempt to immerse you in the past at the exclusion of the present, our room had not only original architectural details, period furniture, a fireplace, and a huge curved-wood bay window (which the bed was perfectly placed in), but also a large TV, small refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and whirlpool tub, too.

The breakfast part of the usual deal isn’t served in the traditional B&B style, though we were offered this option. Instead, the staff prefers to leave coffee (to be made by you in the coffee maker), muffins, fresh fruit, juice, bottled water, and yogurt in your room every day. Although it's not what we expected, we very much enjoyed being able to eat when we wished, and also liked always having some food in the room in case we needed a snack at a time other than breakfast.

In short, we loved the Lotus Bed & Breakfast and really hated to leave. Staying there was a vacation from the ordinary, and we couldn’t have been happier that we decided not to stay at the local Holiday Inn instead.
