Dutch Village Inn

We stayed at the Dutch Village Inn approximately 19 years ago on our honeymoon night. Not much has changed since that time, this is still a quaint hotel in Lynden's historic downtown. Enjoy the spaciousness of Room #3 on the second floor with its king size bed and large jetted hot tub. There was also a complimentary breakfast at the Sidewalk Cafe included in our room rate of $110 US.

The television was a 19" set which we were sure was the same as it had been 19 years ago, but there were lots of cable channels. The mattress on the king sized bed was a little soft but otherwise comfortable.

Room #2 on the 3rd floor is a little smaller (as it is closer to the top of the wind mill. This room was $85 per night and has a hot tub and queen size bed.

Room #1 is on the top floor and boasts a view of Mount Baker.

Dutch Village Inn

This hotel is very easy to spot because it is located in a replicated 72 foot windmill. The blades of the windmill actually turn and are illuminated by hundreds of tiny lights each night. The interior of the hotel resembles a canal house with narrow wooden stairs leading to the guest rooms that are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The main floor, at street level, is a large gift store selling Dutch food, lace and other souvenirs. The reception desk is also located here but it’s easy to miss since it also serves as the sales desk for the store. In fact, the hotel is part of the Dutch Village Mall and has its own entrance into the mall so die hard shoppers won’t get wet on rainy days.

Kamer is the Dutch word for room and the six kamers at this hotel are named after areas in the Netherlands such as Delft, Groningen and Noord Holland. Three of the rooms are actually located in the windmill while the other three are above the store. The rooms are decorated in a Dutch theme with lace curtains and wooden shoes filled with silk tulips for year round color. Furnishings are simple but each room has a 4 piece bathroom and breakfast is included in the price, sort of. Each person is allotted a $4.50 credit at the restaurant/coffee shop in the mall beside the hotel. This way, you can choose your own breakfast and pay the difference if necessary. I had a continental type breakfast - large gooey cinnamon bun and tea which was under the allowable but my hubby paid just a bit extra for his substantial breakfast of sausages, eggs, pan fries and toast.

We were in the South Holland Kamer, the largest room in the hotel that is more like a mini suite. It has a large king size bed as well as a love seat that can be pulled out into a double bed if necessary. The furnishings were a bit dark and out of date but clean and comfortable nonetheless. The room was very spacious and bright, partly because of the four dormer windows along the walls. In one corner was a large sunken hot tub that came in handy on a cold autumn night. At each end of the room were two smaller rooms. One had a sink and shower and the other a sink and toilet. Not just regular sinks, these were actually pottery bowls finished with a raku glaze with a myriad of hues and colors.

Although the hotel is on the main street in Lynden, it’s pretty quiet downtown at night and there is lots of free parking, either in the hotel parking lot or on the street in front of the hotel. Rooms start at $69.00 per night and the suite is $110.00 per night, breakfast included. All rooms are no smoking and they do not allow pets.
