Description: Way back when the Travel Inn merged with another budget hotel chain to create the Premier Travel Inn, this brand then became recognised throughout the UK, although many people often even guests couldn't quite remember/work out the name, referring to it as the Travel Lodge, Premier Lodge, Travel Inn Lodge and many other formats.

(The reason this frustrates me so much is I actually used to work in a PREMIER INN, whilst at university and bloody hell the amount of people who would come in and talk to me on reception and book a room for the Travel Lodge whilst I was standing in front of the mother of all signs that clearly said PREMIER TRAVEL INN).

Anyway after a £3,000,000 overhaul the Premier Travel Inn became the Premier Inn, the Premier Inn offers budget accommodation and the main competitor is Travel Lodge, although last year there was speculation that there was to be a merger between the two nothing has yet happened or been finalised.

The Premier Inn offer basic accommodation which includes an en-suite room with a bathroom including, a bath, a shower, sink, toilet, waste bin, hand wash, and Lux Shower Gel, as well as a bath mat, one bath towel and one hand towel.

In the standard double room you will find, one bath towel and one hand towel, a wardrobe style cupboard with a railing for all your hangers, including 6 hangers. 4 shelves, and a drawer. The room also has a desk, a phone, a television (with more than the standard 5 channels), and a hair dryer. The room holds a double bed (sometimes a larger king size bed, depending on the hotel) and this has a standard relatively thick duvet with 2 pillows on the bed and 2 more in the cupboard. On the desk is condiments (tea, coffee, sugar, milk, teaspoons) and a kettle.

A twin rooms - the Premier Inn operate a policy that isn't two single beds, a twin rooms consists of the usual double bed and the second bed is a sofa bed that is converted, but this isn't a sofa bed that is a sofa then pulled out on a rubbish mattress, it's a sofa bed that the actual seat is a mattress as well. This will be made up with a single quilt and pillow.

A family room, is the same as the twin for 2 adults and 1 child but if it's for 2 adults and 2 children, it will be set out as a twin but with the added mattress for the second child being the same size as that of the sofa but on wheels from under the double bed and made up as the third bed, on the floor.

The rooms are usually clean and the standards are quite high. The Premier Inn offers a "good night guarantee" this means if there was anything wrong with your stay you are entitled to your money back. The best thing to do though, is report the complaint as and when, for example, noisy neighbours that kept you up all night, please report it asap and then the staff can work towards stopping it rather than you putting up with it all night.

Reception should be manned at all hours, it is a 24 hour reception and someone is always on duty, they may not be behind the desk but there should be a button for attention that will buzz them.

Extra condiments are available free of charge from reception/housekeeping and there are mini-packs available from behind reception, one is men's and one is women's and they are £3.99 which include a toothbrush, etc depending on gender.

Most Premier Inn's are adjoing a restaurant that is also part of the Whitbread Group or ex-Whitbread. Anyway be sure to ask for discount offers etc from reception and they will tell if there are any available.

The Premier Inn breakfast (personally I would never pay for this), continental is between £4-6 and a full English is between £5-8. This is a rip off for what it is, I would personally go out if possible to find food as this is extremely overpriced, the continental consists of, bread/toast, cereal, yogurt and fruit. The full English is all that plus a hot breakfast, but I would say this is expensive. Drinks/Juices are also included.

Breakfast time varies between the week and weekend with the week being 7am-9am and the weekend being 8am-10am, if you need breakfast before, ask, they usually accommodate.

There is no room service at the Premier Inn.

Papers are available to order when checking in. Check in is usually a good experience, rooms are available from 2pm and check out is 12 mid day. You can book rooms direct with reception face to face or over the phone, the Premier Inn do have a directory with all locations and phone numbers in.

I have stayed at many of these and I think overall they are a higher standard of clean and the services included such as soap is often overlooked but not included at the Travel Lodge.

Overall a good hotel but not so budget, the Travel Lodge does usually win on price.Close
