I recently spent the weekend in Avalon at the Hotel Mac Rae. We stayed in an ocean view room and enjoyed the great view; however, the noise made things difficult. We were kept awake until 12:45 with awful karaoke from a nearby bar and the patrons yelling on their way home.

The room itself was small but clean. The entire hotel needs much updating. Had limited interaction with the staff so I really can't comment.

WE were very pleased with Hotel Mac Rae. It has been family owned and operated for many years. While not plush, the location is right on the boardwalk of the harbor. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They have a few rooms that have a harbor view, but these need to be booked way in advance. The simple continental breakfast was appreciated. The service was very good and the staff was friendly.
