Mittersill Vacation Ownership Resort

  • February 24, 2004

Best Things Nearby:
The best thing nearby was Cannon Mountain. It was up the street from the resort. Also within a few miles there was also Loon Mountain and Watervill Valley.

Best Things About the Resort:
The best thing about the resort was that it was close to a couple of good ski mountains and only a hour drive to North Conway, NH.

Resort Experience:
The resort was not luxurious. It was clean and comfortable. The only downfall about our room is that smokers must have been in before our week and the room smelled like stale smoke, so if you are a non-smoker bring deoderizers. Even the bedding had a cigeratte smoke smell to it. Bring lots of candles. Otherwise, it was nice. I would go back.

Best Things Nearby:
Skiing, and lots of it!! We visited Cannon mountain, Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods. The aerial tramway at Cannon is a must at any time of year. There are also lots of cross-country, hiking and snowmobiling trails. This is a great area for the outdoor enthusiast.

Best Things About the Resort:
The location is great. Very accessible to all ski areas via route 93. The kids will love the arcade, and the indoor pool and hot tub. There were other kids there, and they really had a great time in the evenings playing the games, and all the buildings connect inside, so there is no need to go outside.

Resort Experience:
The view from our room was very nice. We faced the old ski slopes of Mittersill, with Cannon in the background. I understand that next year Cannon will be expanding there slopes to Mittersill. The units are older. We had a one-bedroom with a living area and a full kitchen. The kitchen was well-equipped to cook most meals in. The living area was tight with the bed pulled out, and the bathroom was also very small. The bedroom was very spacious, with a king-size bed fitting with room to spare. I would not recommend 4 adults in a one-bedroom.

This is NOT a luxurious resort, so don't expect that. It is very rustic. We did however use all the facilities offered: indoor pool (small, but the kids loved it), hot tub, ping pong, game room, restaurant and bar, sleigh rides on the slopes.

As for the restaurant, it was only open a few nights (the winter is their slow season). We did however use the pool table in the bar area, and spent an hour talking to a skiing local, and got some great information on the slopes.

Miyako Hotel Kyoto

Miyako Hotel Kyoto

Elegant accomodations, especially on the upper "sky" floors. I had western style rooms both nights with great deep bathtubs and a high tech toilet. The staff was wonderful and anticipated my every need. I quite frankly was unused to the attention!

The street the Miyako is on is lacking for good restaurant choices... of note is the tiny noodle shop towards the river. But, it''''s conveniently located on the subway line and in a good central area of the city.

The hotel amenities include a lovely pool/spa area (summer only), and extensive walking trails for bird viewing through groomed gardens.

Several upscale restaurants and boutiques are available within the hotel.

Internet access is through the business center and is reasonably priced - 10yen/minute.

As well, the hotel staff were happy to hold onto my bags the day I departed. Overall, a good place at a decent value, even if it was quite a bit more than I was prepared to spend. Lesson learned: Always reserve a room in advance before arriving in Kyoto!

Mercure Relais Lux-Center

Accomodations are expensive in this city. Considering we only alloted 18 hours for Luxembourg, this hotel worked out so well for us. It is literally one block from the train station, perfect for us to cart our bags to and from the station. It is modern and clean, though the rooms are small. The reception is friendly, and I got the feeling that the clientele is mostly businessmen. We walked the 20 minutes or so into town center. The surrounding area is not pretty, as to be expected for being near the train station. But there are expensive hotels on the main street and we did not feel unsafe, even coming back late at night.
