First, a word about accommodation in Maastricht. This city fills up on many weekends, especially during the summer. It is a good idea to book as far in advance as possible.
When you are booking, my recommendation is the Hotel la Colombe. The best part about this hotel is its location. It is right on the Markt, one of the two big squares in town. Big markets are held here several times a week, and it is in the heart of the shopping district. Many bars and clubs are nearby, so it´s great if you plan on going out. However, keep in mind that this may lead to a lot of noise outside, especially on weekend nights.
The rooms seem to have been recently remodeled. The bathrooms, while tiny, have modern appliances and are pefectly clean. The rooms are relatively small and somewhat simple, but very nice, comfortable, and clean. Perhaps the only drawback is the staircase. There is only one way up and down, and it is a tiny, narrow, sprial staircase. Especially if you have heavy luggage, this will be a challenge.
Breakfast is served downstairs in the hotel bar, which is open only to hotel guests during breakfast hours. Breakfast consists of cereal, breads, and pastries, and cold meat and cheese, plus the usual breakfast beverages.
A double room costs about 70 euros per night. Reservations can be made over the phone or through their website, http://www.hotellacolombe.nl. The page is available in English, and all staff members speak perfect English, too.
