This is a four-star hotel situated in the city centre. With its white walls, black roof and green bamboo the hotel has aimed for a balance between traditional Suzhou architecture and modern design. There are 356 guest rooms with individually controlled air-conditioning (and the controls worked!), IDD telephone and internet access, colour TV with satellite programs, radio, minibar, and in-room safe. An executive floor adds a lounge, fruit in room, buffet breakfast, and a range of free services to this list. The hotel is low-rise so some of the rooms are a long way from reception and the restaurants.
There was a good selection of eating outlets. Plum’s Café offered Asian and Western cuisine. Japanese Corner had Japanese delicacies for lunch and dinner, while Emerald Place featured Suzhou and Cantonese cuisines. Silk Road Junction was a place for a quiet drink or for live entertainment from 8pm.
We inspected the Health Club but had no time to partake in its services. There were a gym room, sauna, massage, snooker room and indoor swimming pool. The two tennis courts looked tempting. There was a business centre, a shopping arcade with an amazing array of goods, and a beauty salon.
For the limited time we were there, we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Service was fine and the location was excellent. At night we walked back from the central shopping area and thoroughly enjoyed the 15 minute stroll.
