This is one of the most famous colonial haciendas in Ecuador & as is often the case when something is hyped up - it was not as good as we expected.
The building & grounds themselves are lovely & architectually/historically very interesting (especially the inner courtyard & chapel) but our bedroom was a bit shabby, cold & damp & we had no hot water! (Others in our party fared better)
The bar/dining area is cozy - with a huge blazing fire. They serve traditional Ecuadorian food (Caldo & Seco) & have a reasonable wine list.
In case you want to meet/avoid the ghost of von Humboldt - he is present in the suite that bears his name - the people in our party who stayed in this room certainly felt his presence - with objects moving of their own accord & tapping on the windows - you've been warned!
