Ryugu-Den is a large, very nice ryokan with two main buildings, a Honkan and a Shinkan. The Honkan is the larger original building and the Shinkan was more recently built. I stayed in the Shinkan and my amazing room overlooked beautiful Lake Achi and across to the majestic Mt. Fuji. From the moment I arrived, I was absolutely mesmerized! I was greeted kindly at the desk, and shortly after being shown to my room, a nice hot cup of tea and a sweet arrived. Fascinated by the room’s traditional qualities, it didn’t take much time for me to decide to put on a typical Japanese robe. Next I was off to explore the baths. After a relaxing bath, I settled in for a 12-course dinner of traditional food!
After completely stuffing myself, I was ready for bed. To my surprise, I returned to my room to find that the table and cushions had been moved to the side to make room for a futon mattress! It was truly one of the best nights of sleep I had while in Japan.
