Pedro turned out to be a gregarious host. When we arrive at his place he toasted us with wine as a welcome. His guest house only had a few rooms. It seemed safe and was a 15 minute, uphill walk from town. The sheets were clean, the showers were warm and the price was around $20/night for the two of us. I wish I could give you his address but we lost it. Still if a strange looking hippie hands you a leaflet when you exit your bus, it might be worth following up.
There were many people meeting the buses and this might provide the best chance to get an affordable room.
