This is the only budget hotel in the centre of Pescara. It consists of several upper floors (no lift) in an old ninetenth century terraced building. Its main advantage is its location, directly opposite the main station (bus, coach and train), and at the top of the main street which leads down to the beach. My room was small and dark, with an equally small and dark and slightly smelly bathroom attached. At 1.10 am the telephone rung. I was surprised, because I hadn’t noticed a phone in the room. Some-one asked me to close my window. I said the window was closed (which was true – I have a morbid fear of mosquitoes in strange hotel rooms) and went back to sleep. By the time they rung again 10 minutes later, I had worked out that they must mean the shutters, which I had opened to try to get some light. I promised to close them, and had just returned to bed after doing so when they started pounding on the door, calling out that the windows must be closed. They were still muttering about windows when I checked out the following morning.
I have no idea what was behind this. Was it some obscure dress code for buildings imposed by the local council? Was it for my benefit, so I wouldn’t be woken by excess sunlight, or for some undisclosed reason of theirs? And why was there a telephone in the room which could only be used for incoming calls? No-one could speak English, so I never found out. This place is creepy.
29.50 euro for single room with bath. No other amenities.
